Kick-off MarRisk Project
On July 11, the REDE group participated in the kick-off of the MarRisk project, which took place at the Centro de Estudos Avanzados (CEA) in Santiago de Compostela. MarRisk, a project within the framework of the Galicia-Northern Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation (POCTEP-INTERREG), aims to ensure smart and sustainable growth in the coastal areas of Galicia and Northern Portugal by assessing the most important coastal risks in a scenario of climate change. Flooding, intensification of extreme events, episodes of toxic algae or coastal erosion are examples of risks to be analysed in order to improve the resilience of traditional economic sectors and other emerging sectors such as marine renewable energies. This will improve the adaptation of the Cooperation Area to possible disasters and develop applications and services to ensure a coordinated response, as environmental risks require a cross-border approach. The project has a deadline until 2019.
The event was attended by representatives of the consortium formed by the Subdirección Xeral de Meteoroloxía e Cambio Climático (Meteogalicia) as coordinating partner of the project, two state-level entities: Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas-Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas (IIM-CSIC) and Instituto Español de Oceanografia (IEO), three other Galician organizations: Centro Tecnológico del Mar (TECMAR Foundation), Instituto tecnolóxico para o control do medio mariño de Galicia (INTECMAR) and Universidade de Vigo, represented by four research groups –EPhysLab, GEOMA, Divulgare and REDE– as well as six Portuguese entities: Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), Centro Interdisciplinar de Investigação Marinha e Ambiental (CIIMAR), Universidade do Minho, Universidade de Aveiro, Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente I.P (APA I.P.) and Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Tecnologia e Ciência (INESC TEC).
