REDE participates in the International Cross-border Closing Event of the MarRISK project
On October 19 and 20, in the City
of Culture of Santiago de Compostela, the International Cross-Border Event to
close the MarRISK project took place. In this event, the different partners of
the project have participated, including the REDE research group, as well as stakeholders
and oceanic observatories.
In the first Conference,
representatives of different coastal oceanographic observatories from Spain and
Portugal (RAIA, SOCIB, Ocaso, Plocan, Euskoos and Madeira) participated. These
observatories, which are in different stages of development, were able to
exchange experiences and reflect on their future challenges and opportunities.
The second and last day, focused
on the presentation of the main results of MarRISK. This project, framed in the
call for Cross-Border Cooperation Galicia-North of Portugal (POCTEP-INTERREG),
aims to ensure a smart and sustainable growth of the coastal areas of Galicia
and North of Portugal by assessing the most important coastal risks and
resilience improving in a climate change scenario.
In this context, Carlos
Rodríguez, head of the REDE Research Transfer and Support Unit, presented the
work carried out by the research group with the invaluable collaboration of the
Port Authority of A Coruña. This work, framed within activity 3 of this
project, has consisted of the development of a tool to improve climate change
adaptation of Outer Port of A Coruña. This tool, with extrapolation potential
to other ports, makes it possible to identify the room for improvement (in
terms of adaptation) and focus efforts to improve the resilience of the port in
a Climate Change context.
This was followed by the
intervention of Andrés Guerra, head of the Sustainability Department of the
Port Authority of A Coruña. In his presentation, he highlighted the usefulness
of this tool, as well as the measures implemented after its application with
positive results in improving adaptation capacity.
